What Are Dental Crowns & Bridges?
Crowns and bridges are two of the most popular dental procedures and we’re proud that our experience and skills make us the perfect choice for your dental needs. Although very similar, crowns and bridges do have a few key differences and which one you get will depend on your unique dental situation.
Crowns and bridges are fixed permanent prosthetics. They cannot be removed, unless by a professional, as they’re fixed onto the teeth using a permanent solution. Typically, the teeth need to be reshaped so that the crown or bridge can fit over the tooth. This process then allows our preferred dental lab to create a crown or bridge that fits the mold of your teeth perfectly, resulting in a natural-looking smile
How Does A Crown Work?
A crown covers up a damaged tooth, creating a new coating that both prevents further damage to the original tooth and improves the appearance of the tooth. Most popular are porcelain and ceramic crowns which are specifically designed to match the color of your natural teeth, so nobody will know you’ve had work done.
How Does A Bridge Work?
A bridge fills in gaps in your teeth, so you are left with a full set. Missing teeth can cause the surrounding teeth to crowd in, causing more damage to the gums and remaining teeth. Bridges are cemented to the surrounding teeth which act as anchors to keep the bridge in place. Depending on where your bridge will be placed, there are also choices for the type of material, color and function too.
How Long Do Crowns & Bridges Last?
The life of your crown or bridge depends on how well you’re taking care of your teeth. Sometimes, they can last a lifetime if well looked after. However, crowns and bridges can sometimes fall out or become damaged and need replacing. As long as you’re brushing frequently and taking care of your oral hygiene, you generally shouldn’t see any issues with your crowns or bridges.
